How to make corn hole boards less slippery?

We just made a set of corn hole boards, painted them and varnished them. They seem like they were the right slickness when throwing them onto the board. But when you throw the bean bags on the lower portion of the boards, when they stop, they will slide right back down the front off of the board!! Is there anything i can do to correct this!?
