What role did the War in Iraq play in the Neocon agenda?

We all know that Bush and his fellow Neocons wanted to create an imperialistic state bent on forcing his influence throughout the world. However, what was the role of the War in Iraq in his Neocon agenda? Was it for Oil? Was it to make a point? Was it to bully a defenseless country? The whold WMD mask was debunked when it turned out there were no weapons of m destruction in Iraq, also prior to the US invasion, there was NO Al Qaeda in Iraq. So why is it the Neocons went to war in Iraq?
